Welcome to St Aldhelm's Academy

A message from the Principal, Cheryl Heron

Welcome to St. Aldhelm’s Academy, a community for 12-19 year olds, where innovative learning and teaching, and traditional values go hand in hand with a caring, supportive Christian ethos.

The Academy is an exciting place to learn, where we are committed to ensuring everyone can take full advantage of a broad range of opportunities to develop their talents and abilities in a culture of respect and exemplary behaviour. Sport and Mathematics specialisms are an integral part of our stimulating, creative curriculum, and our Academy Day enables learners to extend their studies and take part in a diverse variety of enrichment activities.

The Academy is organised around Houses, where young people are part of and learn in small family communities from all the year groups. Each young person has a say in the design of their learning plan and is supported by a mentor who coaches them to succeed.

We want parents and carers to be our partners in creating a centre of excellence in lifelong learning at the heart of the community. We also work with local primary schools to make moving up to the Academy a positive experience, and with other education providers and businesses to provide the best learning experiences and opportunities for local young people and the wider community.

A message from our sponsors

Sponsored by Diocese of Salisbury and Bournemouth University, the Academy brings together the Church of England’s core values and the university’s proven record in learning, teaching and research.

Sponsoring the Academy is integral to the university’s commitment to promoting, within East Poole, lifelong learning, higher qualifications and increasing the number of local young people moving onto higher education. Its links with business and enterprise are an important resource for the Academy and its academic strength is vital in developing the Academy’s broad curriculum, including vocational courses.

For more than 200 years, The Church of England has worked with communities to bring education to all and nurture the unique talents of individuals. The Diocese of Salisbury has a strong relationship with the local community and a long-standing commitment to encouraging its regeneration through providing high-quality education. The Academy’s values are grounded in the Church’s Christian principles of trust, care, fairness, tolerance, mutual respect and forgiveness and, with its passionate belief in inclusion, the Academy welcomes learners from all faiths and none.

We believe that every student has great potential and should have access to a wide range of learning opportunities to make the most of their talents and abilities. Working together with local education providers, businesses, parents and carers, and using our experience and expertise, we aim to equip young people with the skills and personal qualities they need to succeed in life - at work, at study and in the community. Our vision is of an inclusive and outward-looking Academy at the heart of its community, of a school that is the first choice for local parents and students, and of an Academy that is the hub of growing learning community for local people.
