One of our main goals as teachers is to give them student centred, engaging lessons that push them to think and not simply to parrot.   We believe that it is our job to serve our young people by teaching them knowledge specific to mathematics and science, increasing their intuitive understanding of concepts, enabling them to become problem solvers and to work effectively in groups, and to challenge them to think logically and abstractly.

Our young people should expect a classroom experience centred on them and their learning.   Our lessons are designed to meet young people at their level of knowledge and skill and, through creative engaging activities, help them to grow in knowledge and insight.   Every young person has the ability to learn mathematics and science and to become adept at solving problems; it is our job as teachers to draw out these abilities.

Too often mathematics and science are regarded as esoteric endeavours, irrelevant to our real lives.  But as our culture grows increasingly dependent on technology, and science, understanding these subjects and thinking logically about them become increasingly important skills for young people.  Our classes are designed to help prepare young people, not only to pursue careers in the sciences, but also to see and appreciate mathematics and science in the world around them.  Hands on activities and projects will help them apply classroom knowledge to the world they see around them every day; group work will help them develop the skills to effectively solve problems, communicate, and learn from their peers.

We believe that as teachers we should be a role model to our young people.   Young people should be able to see us with a knowledge, curiosity, interest, and engagement with both the mathematics and science we are learning in class as well as how current research relates to our course material.   We will model not only knowledge and skill in our specific disciplines, but also to model tolerance, compassion and responsible adult awareness of and engagement with the community.   We hope that through their experiences in our classrooms, young people grow academically, personally, socially, and spiritually.
